November 2007 E-Alert
UPDATED MISSOURI MINIMUM WAGE
The
Missouri Department of Labor and
Industrial Relations has announced
that, effective January 1, 2008, the
minimum wage in Missouri will be
$6.65 an hour. This is an increase
of $.15 an hour from the current
minimum wage of $6.50 an hour. The
minimum wage will be adjusted
annually based on the increase or
decrease to the cost of living as
measured by the Consumer Price
Index.
Additionally, Missouri’s minimum
wage law requires employers of
tipped employees to pay those
workers a base cash wage of at least
50% of the minimum wage ($3.33 as of
January 1, 2008), while allowing
that the balance of the minimum wage
may be provided in the form of tips.
If, however, the balance is not made
up in tips, the employer must
satisfy the differential.
Keeping track of the ever changing
landscape of federal and state
minimum wage laws can be difficult.
To minimize this difficulty, we have
included the following chart showing
the current and planned federal,
Missouri and Illinois minimum wage
requirements for the foreseeable
future.
