Reminder: As of May 7, 2013, Employers Must Use the New Form I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13)

Beginning Tuesday,Reminder: As of May 7, 2013, employers must use the new Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 (version Rev. 03/08/2013) to verify the identity and employment authorization of all new hires. The new Form I-9 must also be used for any required I-9 “reverifications” of an employer’s current employees. Failure to use the new Form I-9 beginning May 7, 2013 could subject employers to fines and/or penalties. The new Form I-9 can be obtained at

As discussed previously in our immigration blog, although the updated version of the Form I-9 is actually longer than its predecessor, the new Form I-9 has been reformatted to be more “user friendly” by including, for example, more defined signature boxes and expanded instructions on how to complete the form. The new Form I-9 also includes new fields for information such as the employee’s foreign passport information, email address, phone number, etc.
